If you go below this range and decide to turn your computer into a gaming rig, there is a good chance you will have to upgrade to a larger PSU in the future.

If you are running multiple USB devices, however, along with multiple hard drives, a beefy GPU and overclocked CPU, don’t expect a 650W PSU to be enough.

With this aside, let’s take a look at each one, and see what makes them prime choices for your computer.

1. EVGA 650 BQ: Best Budget 650W PSU

EVGA 650 Bq, 80+ Bronze 650W, Semi Modular, 5 Year...
  • EVGA 650 BQ "great quality, Great value"

  • Fan Size/ Bearing: 140 millimeter Teflon nano steel Bearing quiet and intelligent auto fan for near silent operation

If you are looking for rock-solid reliability, EVGA is one of the best brands out there. They are more known for their Nvidia GPUs, but their power supplies are high-quality parts as well.

While they may not be as prestigious in the power supply space as some other brands, they have carved out a diehard niche fanbase for their products.  Maybe you will join the crowd if you try the 650 BQ.

Performance

This power supply is rated 80+ Bronze, giving you excellent reliability while also being quite affordable.

While it is not as efficient as some of the high-end power supplies, we would happily make that trade-off.  The jump from Bronze to the higher levels is not going to be something the average user needs to dwell on.

The fan here is 140mm and moves a decent amount of air to keep this 650W PSU nice and cool.  It is also quite in operation, making it a great choice to avoid fan noise in your system.

A good fan will help prevent overheating and eventual failure, so it is nice to see them not skimp on the cooling.

Design

A beautiful thing to see on this 650W PSU is the lack of mustard and ketchup cables.  EVGA installed all black cables with black sleeves over the top, giving it a beautiful stealthy look.

This is a huge step up in looks over a stock PSU or a super-budget model, allowing you not to ruin the look of your computer with ugly cables.

The rest of the build is fine, with an all-black look except for the bronze and white lettering on the sides.

It isn’t a PSU you are going to love the look of, but you shouldn’t hate it either.  There are no RGB lights or any flashiness to it, just a simple, basic look.

Pros:

  • Very reliable
  • Great price
  • Large fan with good cooling
  • 5 year warranty

Cons:

  • Not the best looking design

2. Seasonic Focus GX-650: Best 650W 80+ Gold PSU

Often considered the king of power supplies, Seasonic is the go-to for high-end system builders.  Their durable and efficient power supplies make other brands look puny, often outperforming the competition in every way imaginable.

If there is one brand we would trust to put in a computer without hesitation, it would be Seasonic.  The Focus GX-650 is a shining example of what their power supplies can do when facing other mid-range PSUs.

Performance

It is a Seasonic power supply, so the performance category is where it shows off.  This bad boy has an 80+ Gold efficiency rating, giving you excellent efficiency to go along with ample power for even more high-end rigs.

It can power a system with ease, never breaking a sweat even with a high-end Intel or AMD Ryzen processor and a top-of-the-line Nvidia GPU.

This power supply is so well made and efficient that it doesn’t need the fan to be running at all times.  When doing less stressful tasks, you can have it in silent mode, stopping the fan without the worry of damaging the unit.

When you need the fan on when gaming or doing complex computing tasks, it will keep the PSU nice and cool even under the heaviest loads.

Design

The design of the Focus GX series is minimal, yet pleasing to the eye.

There are no crazy over the top RGB lights or gamer design elements, just an all black beauty of a case with Seasonic branding on the fan and side.

It is not going to win any beauty competitions, but it is simplistic enough to fit in any build.

The all black cables look nice and will match any build theme, making this PSU good for even the most custom computer.

There is a nice black sleeve over the motherboard power cable as well, keeping them bundled together and still not detracting from the overall looks.

Pros:

  • Fantastic performance
  • Gold efficiency rating
  • Good design choices
  • 10 year warranty

Cons:

  • Expensive

3. Silverstone ST65F-PB

SilverStone Technology 650 Watt ATX Power Supply...
  • High efficiency with 80 PLUS Bronze certification
  • 24/7 continuous power output with 40℃ operating temperature
  • 100% modular cables with flexible flat arrays

Specs

Efficiency80+ Bronze
PCIe Connectors4x 6+2 (8 pin)
SATA Connectors8
ModularYes
Fan Size120mm

Silverstone makes great computer cases and CPU coolers.  Their power supplies aren’t as well known, but they deserve to be in the conversation with the other brands on this list.

Given their track record for making great computer components, we should expect their PSUs to deliver as well.  And if the ST65F-PB is any indication, they absolutely crush it.

Performance

While 80+ bronze isn’t the highest rating you will see in this list; it is still more than enough efficiency for a power supply in this range.

As with the EVGA power supply above, the average user will not notice the difference going from a bronze rated power supply to gold or higher.

The fan on this power supply is extremely quiet, offering near-silent operation even at full load.  That is quite impressive for a power supply that can power a nice gaming computer.

This power supply provides minimal ripple as well, another telltale sign of a high-quality made PSU.  Kudos to Silverstone for sending clean power.

Design

This power supply is one of the better-looking ones on this list.  Silverstone’s snowflake logo adorns the top of the unit in silver, with nice contrast against the all-black construction below.

The fan is black and gives it an overall sleek and sexy look that most PSUs can’t pull off.

The flat black cables are a nice touch too.  You won’t see any ugly cable colors or connectors here, nor will you see any nasty cable covers.

The cables lend themselves perfectly to the overall beautiful look of the unit, not deviating from the sleek design of the main body.

Pros:

  • Great overall design
  • Flat cables are nice
  • Extremely quiet fan

Cons:

  • Only bronze rated

4. Corsair RM650x: Best 650W PSU For Value

Corsair RMX Series (2018), RM650x, 650 Watt, 80+...
  • 80 PLUS Gold certified for lower power consumption, less noise and cooler temperatures
  • Tuned for low noise operation even at full load. Compatibility-ATX12V v2.4 and EPS 2.92 standards
  • Zero RPM fan mode for near-silent operation at low to medium loads

Specs

Efficiency80+ Gold
PCIe Connectors4x 6+2 (8 pin)
SATA Connectors9
ModularYes
Fan Size140mm

The undisputed king of the power supply mountain is Corsair.  They have been making PSUs seemingly forever, and have perfected the art of producing high-quality components.

They are reasonably priced, nice looking, and offer fantastic performance.  In the 650W range, their RM650x is the way to go.

Performance

You get Corsair’s well known high performance with this unit, combined with the 80+ gold efficiency rating.  This whole section could stop with that one sentence, but let’s dig into it a bit.

The gold rating means you will be getting an 87% or higher efficiency rating at a full 100% load.  This should give you confidence that you will not be losing much performance even when doing the most taxing tasks.

The fan here is on the quiet side, keeping the internal components nice and cool, no matter the situation.

While some PSUs have terrible fans that will ultimately shorten the life of the component, Corsair has added one of their high-performance fans on this unit, ensuring that will not happen here.

Design

This power supply has an awesome industrial design, with a black base and grey accents around.

The branding is in grey with black text, and the corsair logo really pops in all white.  The fan is also of grey color, making it have a bit of contrast with the black grill and body that surround it.

The flat black cables look great here as well.  Some cables do come with black sheathing, but it is tightly woven, and adds a bit to the overall industrial feel of this unit.

There are no RGB lights or super colorful design elements here, just a nice looking design that will look great in any computer.

Pros:

  • Industrial design
  • Gold efficiency rating
  • Quiet fan
  • Fully Modular

Cons:

  • A bit pricey

Conclusion

There you have it, four of the best 650W power supplies on the market today.

We believe no matter which one you choose, you will be getting a great unit that will last you for years to come.

Try and find the one that is on sale and pick it up as the price is going to be the significant difference between all these units.
